A few questions worth sitting with

Most business owners don’t need more advice.

They need space to think clearly about what’s really going on.

The questions below come from patterns I see repeatedly in growing businesses — organisations that are profitable, capable, and well-intentioned, yet starting to feel heavier to run than they should.

There are no scores here. No right answers.

Just prompts that tend to surface the real issues early.

When growth starts to feel different

  • If profit is improving, why does cash still feel tight or unpredictable?
  • Has growth begun to feel heavier rather than freeing?
  • Do you hesitate to push further because something underneath doesn’t quite feel stable?

These questions often point to structural strain rather than performance problems.

When the business depends on you more than it should

  • Are you still the person most decisions eventually land on?
  • If you stepped away for two weeks, would the business move forward or simply wait?
  • Do capable people seem hesitant to act without checking first?

This is rarely about trust or talent. More often, it’s about how decision flow has evolved.

When teams don’t quite step up the way you expect

  • Do issues tend to resurface even after they’ve been discussed and “agreed”?
  • Does accountability feel harder to sustain as the business grows?
  • Are people busy, but progress still feels uneven?

In many cases, ownership hasn’t disappeared — it’s just become blurred.

When the pace feels relentless

  • Do you feel busy and involved, yet not fully in control of how things unfold?
  • Are you revisiting the same topics week after week?
  • Does the business require constant attention to stay aligned?

Time pressure is often a signal that effort is compensating for missing structure.

When culture becomes a concern

  • Do you sense a gap between the values you talk about and the behaviours you see?
  • Are people cautious where you’d expect initiative?
  • Does “culture” feel like a growing topic rather than a natural outcome?

Culture usually reflects how the system is working underneath.

These questions are explored more fully in a series of Field Notes — short essays drawn from real businesses, focusing on how cash, decisions, accountability, rhythm, and culture behave as organisations grow.

They’re not frameworks or advice pieces.

They’re observations from the field.

If reading these questions has surfaced a sense that something structural isn’t quite right — even if you can’t yet name it — the next step doesn’t need to be a decision.

It can simply be a conversation.

→ Start a conversation

These questions sit behind the GrowthForge approach — a system-led way of helping businesses strengthen their foundations before pushing for more growth.
